Is art vital for a healthy society?

This essay seeks to prove the importance of art in the current society by showing the power that art has acquired since its beginnings. When someone walks down the streets of a city or from the window of a car or a building finds a big amount of visual and hearing expressions that go unnoticed because they have become into something normal and like an external aspect that doesn’t affect you.

In our daily routine, we live and even use objects that contain artistic aspects that we don’t see realize off and barely try to understand their meaning. What lead us wondering why this happen? Maybe by the indifference  or because we weren’t educated to grasp particularly the human capacity for the skills and talents of those involved with aesthetic or emotional criteria to produce  and make attractive shapes and friendly  to everyday things or situations that affect our lives and also in certain point create influence for the common society.

Being the art: "the ability, guided by reason, to produce any object" 1 (p.37) it is clear that the art itself and nourish by other generates what we could see in every fashion object that  suddenly reflects the dynamics of the political, social, economic, military and religious from the state that are from,  also it is important to notice that there will be artist who have detractors at first that eventually could see magic in art and others are completely against it until the point that sometimes they are chased for assurance their disappearance.

It has been shown that early art dating from the Paleolithic period, more or less 30,000 years ago. With the course of time, men have made art a common bond with the phenomena of the spiritual life of society with science, with technology, with political ideology, morality. (1)
Although the artist shows an interpretation of the reality of it is also true that on more than one occasion alleged situations abstracts and outlines the past, present and even the future. Its sensitivity innate or acquired for the education received complemented with technical sometimes become immeasurable and even master pieces. They use their creativity "to satisfy aesthetic needs themselves or others, also of institutions, producing splendid works, likely to provide joy and pleasure able to enrich spiritually" (1).

Usually considered that art is manifested only in painting or music, but also with various other disciplines that allow people to interpret, and interact live with them permanently. So music and art go hand in hand with sculpture, architecture, literature, dance (2) and in modern times with photography and film. In addition to technology and society also incorporates photography, film and computer programs.

Since almost three decades ago we have been seeing more forms of art, like the graffiti’s and body painting, including tattoos, that are not considered in the classical conception of art but who are we to tell people if something is or is not art, I believe it depends not only of on the perspective of the society it’s actually a matter of extending the framework of acceptance for example in many cities now they are including spaces for increase freedom of expression through art or the creation of spaces in the public schools to include contact with art since an early age as in Bogota encouraging the society to have a more artistic culture.

Tattoo Video

With this video we wanted to show the different perspectives about the tattoos, according to their personal experience wether if they have or haven't a tatto.
Right now we can see how tattoos have gained a lot of power between the society because they are leaving behind the prejudices about them.
If its a matter of art, or just a whim of fashion it's up to everyone the only thing that is really important its that if you make one you must be sure of it, because even with the new procedures to remove it, they will leave a big scar in your life.

Challenge reflection

Everytime you say: 'I'll do something for adding or change anything in my life'  things usually don't work out so well because you suddenly realize you don't have enough time or without notice you postpone it
So this challenge has been a great opportunity for make a stop in the rush of the day and do it without no excuse, it always wasn't easy and maybe far away for making something perfect but if you try so hard eventually you can do it.
More than an assigment I took it like a favor to myself to get out of the daily drama and focus on something else. About my specific challenge I had a lot of troubles since how to pick up a guitar until how to  do and editing the video for make the updates.
So to sum up a little bit it was something enriching and relaxing. And maybe not with the same guidelines but I'll try to do another one by my own.

Meaning of photos

If we had to freeze a moment in time the best way to do this would certainly through a photo:

ADDICTION

We become addicted to something regardless of the damage we do or even without realizing it. Some people actually can't live a day wothout things like coke or cigarettes. Using a lot of excuses like "is to feel better and relax" without realizing that unlike the momentary pleasure they find in these and many more things in the future will become a barrier to keep living life in a good way.

SURPRISE

Nothing scares you more that board a plane, you never know what will happen and it's not even for  the technical failures that may have, otherwise because when you make a trip especially for personal interest things you can't always go well and what we plan may collapse. There are not always good surprises but we need to hold on to the positive view of everything and then even our plans have changed we still be able to suceed.

HAPINESS
This little guy is Antonio, the son of one of my best friends. The first time I've heard about him maybe was the most contradictory day ever, feelings were fighting against themselves. Hapiness it's see in him how a little person could help you get over some of the most hard times a family can pass in almost the same time he born and grown.
In my perspective he was the light in the middle of the dark for his mother, especially.
INSPIRATION
You not need to have a specific topic or special guidelines about what should be inspiring if you look closely a place or a situation we can find that inspiration is there we just need to take it when we see it.
VULNERABILITY

This image actually make me start wondering how many times at day we care about someone else beside ourselves or our friends and family? How many times we stop and give a little of our time to an strage or a cause that dont give us a gain?
This little guy see a pigeon dead on the street and think he deserve to be buried with dignity and that someone should be present at his funeral.

MT Reflection

This course has overcome my expectations if you sign up for a course of English sometimes you can get bored with certain themes or activities that are not attractives as only follow one book,  especially when you don't have a lot of time to dedicate because you have all the other things for university.
But this time It was more practical not only i have improved my english in my oral skills but also I could practice my writting with the things I want, that I choose. Also having something as a blog makes you get into the new line of development in knowledge by having a more important relationship with  tecnology, that sometimes we believe that our career have nothing to see with things like editing videos (that we have no idea about it) but those things are important to knowing them and practice you will never know when you're going to need it.
One of my biggest challenges about this course has been my writing skills because sometimes you stick only to the social networks words and you forget certain things about verbe tenses or how to spell or even how to pronunce it. About the things I don't know before this course there are things like the debate between photography like an art or if its not. i personally believe that It was but when you read certain stand over the theme you could see and actually agree with the other view. I thing i've improved in this part but it's not perfect I need a lot more practice but its not impossible because with all the little articles, entries and opinions that I've done in this time have made me force myself to improve.
One of the activities I have liked the most it's probably the 30 days challenge because it encourages you to take a time daily for do something that will help you in a future or that relax you ( if you don't take it like an assignment) personally I've discovered that I'm not really good with motor skills required to play guitar and although I improved it was really hard,  so this course also teaches us not to be so conformist and always say "no, I could not" because you always have to try before give up.

This week I played the into to "Nothing else matters" I also have problems with the sound, video, editing, etc so it's not that long, because I was alone, but what really matters it's that I did it!

Week one update

This entry is about what i've done the past week.

I never thought how hard it would be to play an instrument it have a lot of things that I wasn't aware off it.
This week I've learnt about the guitar and how start to play it
For start I have learnt about seven of the principals pieces that a guitar have as:
1. The controls: (specially this guitar) it have four that are: Volume (to  adjust the level of sound that you wants); Pickups for determine if you want to have a high - medium or low sound; Tone: it helps to check how dull you want the sound.
2. Neck or Mast of the guitar it depends of the tipe of wood used for making the guitar according to this t would sound different
3.Plugs: for tunning correct  the instrument
4.Microtunes for helping to make a clean sound
5. Strings: this guitar have 6 strings and each one have a different texture and thickness that helps improve the sound
6 Frets: some guitars have 22 but this one have 24 the frets allow pressing a string between two of them, there is a musical note.
7. Double microphone: For having a more powerfull sound.

Other important thing about this week was how to plug in the guitar to the amplifier and the special wire that spread the electric pulse of the guitar to the amp I used one of two heads.

Then in the amplifier there are three main buttons : gain more distorted sound (but pleasant to the ear) treble for giving to the sound more clarity (sound equalization) and drive, for distort the sound and give the music and special effects.

I also started to practice this and even try up for the next week lessons but it's not easy. At least not for someone that haves no idea of how to play any instrument...

This is the resume video of the things  I was doing and that I have told you i've learnt

Until next week!

Music can change the world.

When we heard for the first time that ‘music can change the world’ it reminds us immediately of a concert that took place on the border between Colombia and Venezuela. The aim of that concert was to end up  ww with the bad diplomatic relations between those countries because from ages ago they had a lot of things in common. The concert was organized and handled by Juanes, who is a colombian singer who wanted to organize  this symbolic concert a couple of years ago.

In this sense, when Bono said that ‘music can change the music because it can change people’  we suppose that he wanted to highlight how much music can influence  in any moment. As  we said with the example below it can sort out political issues or  it can help with humanitarian  problems around the world like in Africa.  Music can call people’s attention in order to create a critical position or to make them realize how important are those situations  that can come up around the world. Music can move thousands and thousands of people around only one topic.

If we go back in history we coulded see how since 1960 especially with situations like the protests against Vietnam war or  the murder of Martin Luther King,  music was used to stand up and fight for their thoughts even in these days those facts are still in lyrics, in music and helps the new generations to remember the history of people who said the truth and preached for people’s rights.

Right now every time someone wants to say they need to fight in a pacific way to create a better world. John Lennon and “Imagine” or “Give Peace a Chance” comes as examples of how music could make social changes,  because even after he died he achieved  to create a new perspective in the mentality of people.

To conclude, we believe that music is an alternative to prove how war or aggressive protests are not the only way out and  these days there are still things to fight for and dreams to chase. We will could  change  world problems if people are willing to  listen closely without prejudices.

30 days challenge

This time I have to do a 30 days challenge  after a lot of thinking...
I have decided to learn a different chord everyday!
It might sound silly or boring if you know anything about guitars, but I have no idea so the main objetive it's that at the end of the challenge I could play the first part of "Nothing else matters" by Metallica or "Brain Stew" by Green Day and show you how it went out,
Wish me luck

An example :)

Changing perspectives...

When an idea comes up and you believe it is a good one, you will try to do whatever it takes to prove you are right. In the past days I found out, thanks to Carlos Pardo, one of these good ideas. He is in charge of a foundation named Despacio. They promote the philosophy of  the ‘slow movement’ in Colombia which I can describe as an evolution of the Slow food movement that started twenty years ago in Italy as a response to the chains of fast food in the capital.

Right now they want to apply this to the daily routine of each citizen by encouraging them to take things slowly to guarantee a better quality of life, and it does not mean to do things in a slow way on the contrary the goal is to achieve a more simple and focused life style to do more things and doing them well.

Sometimes in one day there are many situations  that make people to be involved with speed but the main idea must be creating time for themselves, making an appointment with yourself and constantly questioning why you do what you do and how you're doing, this might help people taking things in a better and positive attitude.

At university especially in this one, it is really hard to stop, even for a minute because be in a hurry is one of the main characteristics here. What eventually turns into a problem in different areas like: health, because you will always be busy even for breakfast or rest well.
In this modern world that supposedly gets people who are far away closer, have a negative side because it also separates us from the ones that are beside. We have turned into "techno-dependents". It might sound silly but how many times in a day you have time to call someone you love or making a date with that old friend you haven't seen in a while because you always have an excuse (Skype, Whatsapp, Imessage or Facebook don't count).

That is what the slow movement want: taking a minute for things that are part of our vital cycle, improve personal relationships and focus more on quit creating excuses and actually do the things that have priority.

Have you ever thought that if we spend more time without our cell phone we could learn more, enjoy more and live more?

When was the last time you said I love you to the people around you?

Life is too short and no one knows what tomorrow brings or even if we are going to wake up alive to see it, so why don't we take advantage of today and enjoy our life with every single detail that is in front of us?

Let's apply this, let’s try to watch life with a different perspective with a more positive way and why not, smile! I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for it.

Must read

This it's something I found up goofing around the internet and it's one of those greats ideas that more people must know about

 http://despacio.org/

Cities

This time we'll start with:
Cape Town
It is one of three recognized capital of South Africa, where there is a mixture of colors that cheer the soul in the city center, there's a beautiful place that show us that you can rebuild completely your life after a sad past; also you can see that it's a really european zone in the african continent, they're always trying to prove everyone about the different skills the population have. Nowdays the main trouble is the difficulty in the Baboon managenment because they're are attacking the citizens and tourist in urban areas.

Then we'll have Saint Petersburg, also reconigzed in the sovietic times like Petrogrado and Leningrado, it's the second largest city of Europe. Among its greatest attractions with an historical character is the tram, which was the most used transport in the decade of the 80. Is a city full of colors, including gray and bright colors, according to the area that you are in, there is a mix of identities that are reflected in the architectural heritage. Also transmits the magic of the past with modern styles.

Last but not least there's Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest city in Vietnam and one of the Southeast Asian metropolis, also this concept apply in population terms,  because at least if we focuses in movility subjects there having a lot of troubles because there are so many people and not so many options for a good movilization so they came up with the idea of Scooters, like an alternative of solution to this problem, and well it's also cheap, not everything its a problem, they have the biggest fish market in the area; what makes them one of the more significant industrial and comercial centers in the region.

Definning

The first thing we had to do was describe ourselves with three words, mine were quiet, realistic and creative.
To prove the meaning of those words I try to do it in a simple but nice way.

Why 'creative' ? We all have a little part of artist inside of us, so it's nice sometimes use it not only for university or job we can be creative always, we just have to figurate how to explore that part of us.

Shoes! It's there any more realistic than that?  We all have different days, moods, things to do in a day, we have to choose really well how we're going to take the things that tomorrow brings, always with our feets in the ground.

And the last word I want to show it in a video, QUIET means a lot but sometimes all the noise of the world in general prevent us to find ourselves in the silence and forget who we are...

Why Cherry Street?

When I was creating this blog this song was playing in the background, it's one of my favorites so I believe why not name it cherry street? Maybe it's not such an amazing reason but it's something that defines me.

Welcome

For all the people who will read this blog, welcome!
It was created mainly to improve the work in the 'English skills through multimedia' course.
Let's see how it can be not only an assignement  but also a way to create inspiration.
